Welcome to the 1st Islington Scout Group

Our differences are our strengths!

We're a friendly Scout group who meet on Tuesday evenings in the Crypt under St. James Church just off Clerkenwell Green. We have four sections within our group; Beavers (6 - 8 years), Cubs (8 - 10½ years), Scouts (10½- 14) and an Explorer unit (14 - 18 years). We welcome boys and girls, of any faith. For more details of what we get up to either click on the sections or visit our events calendar. Cubs

Join the adventure...

We currently have capacity to take new members of all ages. If you'd like to find out more either come along on a Tuesday evening (for directions click here) or get in touch with the appropiate section leader - you can contact us through the link above.Scouts

What do we do?

Scouting provides a flexible, fun and adventurous programme. You can get a great idea of what Scouting is all about on the Scout Associations YouTube channel.Explorers

We've just finished a busy and exciting autumn term; two of our Explorers left the unit as they turned 18 whilst at the other end of the spectrum some brand new Beavers and Cubs hgave joined the group. We've also begun the transfer of eight young people from Cubs to Scouts. The Beavers have finished their imagination badge by building models from cardboard boxes and writing an exciting story. The Cubs have been working towards their personal safety badge and are looking forward to the presentations by the local police early next year. The Beavers and Cubs also had a wizard weekend at our Harry Potter Camp in October. The Scouts continued work towards their Community Challenge and Communicators Activity Badge and are nearly there we just need to visit the lifeboat and we're done! The Explorers have started their Silver DoE training. The Scouts and Explorers have finished the first term of the year long competition, as we closed for Christmas the Explorers were just in the lead! As a group we raised over £1,700 for the Poppy Appeal in November - a huge effort by everybody involved.

To find out more about what we're up to next term take a look at our events calendar or visit the individual section pages. Spring looks to be just as busy with several events already planned - in particular there is a fun filled, week long, Activity Camp at Kingswood in February half term.

May 11 - The Scouts and Cubs took a trip to Herstmonceaux Observatory to work towards their Astronomers and Communicators badge. We learnt all sorts of things, saw a science show, blow ourselves in the air with a vaccuum and even got to see one of the domes on one of the famous observatory towers open!

Apr 11 - The Explorers and Scouts got together for a Ghoulish tour around London with a professional tour guide in March. We got to see the darker side of London's past. The following week the Explorers and Scouts both presented some of what they had learnt to the Cubs. It was a really interesting time and put a differeny slant on history, for their efforts the Scouts all got their Heritage badge.

Mar 11 - Our Scouts were the proud winners of the District Winter Mad Venture on 5th March! Mad Venture is a day long incident hike where the Scouts had to hike around the Countryside completing activities at various bases. The bases ranged from putting the Scout law in the correct order to blowing a matchstick through a straw into a bucket (harder than it sounds!).

Feb 11 - The Cubs and Scouts returned from an action packed activity weekend at Grosvenor Hall in Kent in late February. Whilst there we jumped off a sixty foot pole, rode a 30ft swing and climbed a climbing wall to mention just a few. All the people that went gained some badges incuding Swimmers stage 1 and 2, Climbers and Nights Away. We enjoyed it so much that we've booked for next year.
